B is for BARCELONA

After a wonderful time in Paris, I went back to Barcelona. It is really as close as you can get to Paris in "coolness". This day I visited the Museum of Picasso. I wasn't sure if it was worth it or not, as the Guernica is in Madrid; once I found out that the museum held "Las Meninas", I was all for it. Las Meninas is a recreation of a Diego Velazquez painting by Picasso; he did a 58 painting series, reinterpreting Velasquez's work. It was breathtaking to see it all in front of me and see the genius in artists like Picasso, so amazing. He is one of my favourite painters, to not only see his famous cubist works, but also to view his early-training years and the Blue Period were one of the highlights of my 7 month escapade in Spain. As for my personal style I used to never wear much white and now I find myself always pairing up my blacks with whites. I am in love with my new American Apparel leather clutch and Club Monaco heels. I am no longer in France, these are some of my favourite snaps . This second trip to Paris only added to my feelings of love for this city.  It was in this atmosphere of widespread culture, history and fashion that I spent my days moving around trying to absorb and experience as much as possible. There was a distinct feeling while I was there that anything is possible. People usually say "There is no place like home"; that may be true, but I doubt they have ever been to Paris, because "There is no place like Paris!" On a side note so happy to have reached 100 followers! One hundred down, one thousand to go.

ONE NIGHT STAND

This post is a night set from different night strolls, the un-edited photos of me were taken by my friend, fellow dreamer and blogger Natasha.  I forgot about these photos by voilà, it was a fun but cold night. The others I took while experiencing the Parisiense night life by myself. I have to say I love company, but sometimes travelling alone, discovering a city and its bright lights on your own is magical. I love my friends but I also love solitude, sometimes I use it to my advantage, to dream, to write ideas down, to have a million conversations with myself, to breath in as deep as I can so I can never forget moments like these. Red and black are the colours of the night.

HAPPY BIRTH TO MY BLOG! It has been one year this month.  I have enjoyed posting and sharing my travels, ideas, work, outfits, and above all reading everyone's comments. I can't believe a year has passed by!  In honour of my Blog's birthday celebrations I need to give a shout out to Vanessa who literally sat me down and said "I am not leaving your place until you start a blog today". Thanks V for the push! Type A personalities are very  persuasive.

" Qu'ils mangent de la brioche", in English means "Let them eat cake". Despite what you've heard, Marie Antoinette never said it, but she may as well have, because if you are in France you have such choices and quality at your fingertips of the best pastries, that you won't be able to resist. Not only do they look good, it tastes amazing. My cousin Emilie took me to one of her favourite tea rooms in Paris. It was called Angelina (and no, not the Jolie-Pitt). We waited for an hour to get a table, I was at first annoyed by the wait, but once in, every minute waiting was worth it.  "Angelina is a must-not-miss venue for the Parisian aristocracy. There Proust, Coco Chanel, YSL were to be found..."  To my delight the place was beautifully decorated and the treats were unbelievably delicious. I had their famous old fashioned hot chocolate L'Africain, paired with Mille-Feuille , such richness & goodness. Now I need to convince Jacqueline (the only cool girl I know that can make such beautiful treats) to have a day where she could bring me some of her own goodies while I would provide some wine and French music. Here are some shots that my friend Natasha-Snowblackblog took of me during our travels to Paris. We started our day by checking out vintage boutiques, eating crepes and drinking wine (as one should, when in France). This day would have be complete if it were not for the absence of one our besties: Shafiyi (the Mills was not complete without him). The weather was sunny but sharply cold, that's why I paired up 2 jackets to try to keep warm, and Natasha  "had" to buy a new one (and what a great find it was). We played tourists, went up and down the Champs-Élysées, took photos by the Arc de Triomphe and checked out Place de la Concorde. The best thing about friendship, is you don't have to talk nor see each other all the time. There is a subtle understanding between friends, once you catch up, it is though you had never left each other. I am happy that I was able to spend time with so many beautiful friends while I have been away from home. It just makes the experience and memories that much better.

After London I went back to Barcelona where I spent a good week, just sleeping and recovering from my travels to Asia and the UK. Once my "beauty" sleep was back on track I started getting the travelling itch again. I figure I am in Europe I can't go back home without a stop in my favourite city: PARIS!

I went for a week (and what a lovely week it was); my first night was spent with my cousin, who is a theater actor in Paris and her ultra cool boyfriend. We drank wine, listen to Brasilian and French Music and just hang out. The next day I went to look around and fall in love with Paris all over again. This is the type of city you can visit many times over in your life time and it never gets old (at least not for me). 

My first purchase in Paris was this crop jacket by H&M, the sleeves are made of leather (not pleather) and the body is blended wool. When I left the house it was sunny but half way through the day, it started raining and it got real cold. As per usual I did not dress appropriately for the weather.  I went for a walk to the Jardin de Luxembourg (one of my favourite gardens in the heart of Paris) where I met 2 British boys who were kind enough to take these photos of me.  We shared a bottle of wine and some stories about our travels.  I love meeting random, cool people as I travel, almost as much I despise the cray cray that are also out there.  

I revisited the Eiffel Tower and one of my favourite places in the Latin Quarter: the Panthéon (used to be a catholic church now it is a mix between a Museum and a necrofile).  The inscription above the entrance reads "For great men the grateful Nation". Among those buried in there are Voltaire, Rousseau, Honoré Mirabeau, Victor Hugo, René Descartes and  Marie Curie (the only woman to be honored). Paris rules.
